International seems to have been the standard for such a long time that it has entered into boating folklore. In fact, the trust that customers have in the company’s products, be they antifoulings, paints, varnishes or epoxies, can be traced back through a legacy lasting an incredible 122 years!

The global business was born at the heart of the North East of England’s shipbuilding industry in Newcastle in 1881. Within a shipyard shed on the banks of the River Tyne, using a handful of wooden casks and mixing paint by hand, two brothers, Max and Albert Holzapfel, were determined to make their way in the world of marine paint.
